Schools may have been out for summer vacation, but the residents at the Nadine Andreas Foster Home found that they had plenty to occupy and entertain them over the holidays.
Many organisations arranged summer camps for the children, providing them with an abundance of activities to choose from.
Several organisations contributed both their services and finances to making the summer vacation a memorable one for the foster children.
One staff member and three children spent an enjoyable fortnight at the residential Island Cadet Camp. The success of the camp culminated with one of the residents gaining promotion to the rank of acting Lance Corporal. In addition to courses in basic health and safety, hiking and drill-work, residents were able to hone their skills in areas such as fire fighting training, first aid, kayaking, swimming, scuba diving and leadership training. Vacation Bible School camps at the First Assembly, of God Church, Walker’s Road, and Red Bay Holiness gave the children chance to join over a hundred of their peers in discussion groups, art and craft activities, music workshops and general fun and games. Some of the more athletically inclined residents joined the George Town Football camp and the Basketball Camp at Eastern Avenue.
