As the sun settles behind the hilltops on a warm fall afternoon, you pull off a winding country road - and find yourself in a pleasant wrinkle in time. A little Brigadoon of luxurious wood-faced buildings appears out of the wild. Brightly colored pennants on poles echo a medieval tournament, and a small country fair seems to have stopped here on its way to somewhere else.
It's the interface of multiple contrasts. Here wilderness meets comfort, country meets Hollywood and the fortunate reach out to the unfortunate. It's The Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes - specifically, the camp's third annual fundraiser held Sept. 29, and entitled Shell We Camp.
