Missed & first timer "camping"mom

Missed & first timer "camping"mom	Can't Post

My question is this: if I send my child(ren) to camp and want to participate as a volunteer, would that be possible? Not to keep an eye on the kids, but to have fun myself. I did not attend church as a child and never had the experience of "camping" during the summer. Would this be possible and if so, what kinds of "help" could I do for the counselors?

First, I dont think your kids will be too thrilled having there mom tagging along. You might tell them that you are doing it for yourself... but your still going to be there. Part of fun @ camp is going away for a month or two and not having any parents around. Also, as much as camps would love to have volunteers, im not sure if parents are exactly what there looking for in terms of staff. You can try, but my suggestion is to send them off and let them have fun.. and enjoy the break. If you do want to try out a camp, there are family weekend camps around (with church/ community centers ect.).. maby give that a try.

It's great that you want to experience camp as well as your children, but let them experience their independence. It is a wonderful opportunity for kids to see what they can do without mom or dad holding their hand. If you really want to volunteer at a camp, I'd suggest send the kids to one and you volunteer (or work at) another. That way you all can get the full experience.

I don't know that I agree in every case. It depends on a few things. At Camp Ockanickon, we sometimes hire nurses who bring their children. We encourage the children of the nurses to attend camp if they want to. So far, no problems. Of course the parent must know to keep their distance when possible.
