Summer Camp Reading

Summer is the hot season . . . the hot sun beats down . . . time to apply sun screen and don a broad-brimmed hat. Summer beaches fill up with sun bathers thirsty for warming rays, lying on large colorful towels and blankets — and then — into the water for a cooling swim, splashing around, playing on plastic mattresses. It's so great, if your camp has a beach, and campers and staff can chill out during free swim, a break from the hectic fun of activities and play. Hot, hot summer — it’s time to lounge about and indulge in summer magazines and books that the media likes to call — Best of Summer Reading — or Best of Summer Fiction. Here is Summer Camp Reading, the July 2007 MySummerCamp.com Newsletter, via desktop computer or on the beach with a laptop . . . a great source of information for all readers. - Greg Cronin, Camp Scholar and Virginia resident, offers up a dynamic vision of the April massacre at Virginia Tech and the post-traumatic stress faced by its students returning to summer camp.
- Day Camp specialist Lynda Fishman provides her first article for the Newsletter with a well-researched piece on child obesity, offering suggestions for healthy improvements.
- The monthly ACA article comes courtesy of Ed Schirick, a summer camp insurance specialist, in an insightful commentary on how experienced and motivated staff provides the front line of risk management.
- Barbara Gilmour, Creator of Tanner's Manners, imparts her knowledge on social skills and etiquette, and their application to a happy and well-functioning camp setting — her premiere Camp Scholar and Newsletter article.
Enjoy the July 2007 MySummerCamps.com Newsletter whether you're in your camp office or on the beach — summer reading at its best! Stephen Winbaum is the Communications Coordinator of MySummerCamps.com ---
