Education Unlimited® has teamed with Sally Ride Science to offer innovative science camps for girls entering the 4th - 9th grades. These unique overnight camps provide girls an opportunity to explore science, technology and engineering while executing fun science experiments on an actual college campus.
Students select a Science Major, allowing the girls to choose an area of focus for their morning classes. Each major will include several small labs and a significant culminating project. This year, girls will choose from:
* Astronomy
* Marine Science
* Robotics
* Human Bio/Pre Med
*Engineering
Afternoon and evening enrichment activities give girls an opportunity for informal science learning with leadership and problem-solving training, through workshops, experiments, female scientist guest speakers, and science challenges. Many of the projects are interdisciplinary, involving sports, theater, public speaking, and art projects in science related activities. Students will also attend a mid-program excursion to a local science venue such as an aquarium, science museum, or planetarium.
Of course, because it’s summer there is plenty of time for recreation, and the campers participate in talent shows, scavenger hunts, soccer or basketball games, friendship bracelet and other craft-making, movie nights, board games, ice cream socials and pizza parties.
Though most of our campers stay with our residential staff in the campus dorms, there is a commuter option for those who would prefer a day-only camp. Campers take their meals in the dining hall on campus (for commuting campers, lunch and dinner is provided).
