Heartland has a variety of horse camps for varying ages and riding abilities. Activities include daily riding lessons, daily wooded trail rides, learning how to care for horses, doing chores, playing games, and hiking. Intermediate and advanced riders participate in a local horse show. Meals are provided by the bed and breakfast, and the campers are supervised by a licensed teacher. There is one riding instructor for every four campers. Bonds develop between the campers and with their horses. Heartland has some excellent horses, a great facility, some beautiful trails, and an exceptional staff. The campers stay in the nicely furnished and air-conditioned loft of our new recreation barn. Their delicious meals are prepared by the bed and breakfast staff and served on the large oak table in our gathering room. Each camper is assigned a horse for the daily lessons and trail riding while at camp, and we, at Heartland, always enjoy seeing that bond develop between the camper and his/her horse. In addition to a lot of riding time each day, the campers also spend a lot of time grooming, feeding, leading, and petting their horses. Other activities include playing games, helping with the rest of the animals, going on hikes, and talking about horses. |
